Summary:Second World War British newsreel trailer encouraging parents to teach 'Kerb Drill' to their children to help ensure their safety when crossing the road.
Description:The film begins with the example of soldiers learning drill on a parade ground and and practising using drill with the commentary "There is a new conception of drill in the Army today. It recognises that it is a way of teaching fighting men to do the right thing instinctively and without thought under fire". "Learning how to do the right thing is just instinctively and without thought is just as important for children on our dangerous roads as it is for the soldier in dangerous territory". Film of young children running along the side of a road and then the same children walking, in almost a military fashion, to a Belisha beacon marked crossing. The children stop at the kerb and then practise 'Kerb Drill' as described by the commentary "eyes right - all clear, eyes left - all clear, glance again at the right, if all clear - quick march" and then cross the road. The commentary continues "If they really know their drill, they will do the right thing instinctively, whenever they have to cross the road and that means fewer tragedies". The film ends with the caption TEACH YOUR CHILDREN KERB DRILL.
