The commentary states that vitamin C builds up energy especially in winter. Over a brief sequence showing a sailing ship at sea the commentary explains that the lack of vitamin C caused the disease scurvy. The commentary continues "it is a know that fresh fruit and vegetables are rich in vitamin C". Simple animation introduces various fruits including grapefruit, pear, plum, orange, strawberry, grapes and bananas. The commentary explains "we can not produce, or import, enough fruit in wartime. We are growing more green vegetables to take their place. Some of these are richer in vitamin C than fruit".
