Summary:Second World War British Ministry of Information newsreel trailer warning the public of the dangers of German anti-personnel 'butterfly' bombs.
Description:The film opens with a brief shot of a anti-personnel bomb on the ground in a back garden. A young boy discovers the bomb and shouts "look what I've found!", the bomb explodes and his Mother runs out the back door and stares in horror in to the garden. The commentary explains "what he has found was a German anti-personnel or butterfly bomb. These bombs are dropped by the enemy for the sole purpose of killing people". The film show examples of what the bomb looks like, with or without its wings and partially buried in soft ground. The commentary warns that the bombs are "never dropped singularly - if you find one, there will be others about" (shot of a woman looking up from her bed to see a butterfly bomb dangling from a hole in the ceiling), "so report it at one to a warden or the police" (brief shot of inside of an ARP warden post). "don't go back in to the room, the room above, or below, as splinters can pass through the wall or ceiling". The commentary warns that the bomb may go off when lifted or up to half an hour after landing and for the first half an hour the public are warned to keep at least 100 yards away (view of a closed off city street). If you have to go near a bomb after half an hour, take care not to touch it (shot of a policeman walking around a bomb in the street). The film ends with the caption, superimposed over a drawing of a butterfly bomb, KEEP AWAY AND REPORT IT TO THE WARDENS OR THE POLICE.
