Summary: A history of and advertisement for, the Radar FA No 15 (Cymbeline) Mark 1 mortar, which is seen locating radar in the field.
Description: The credits sequence sees a series of mortar attacks, all of which appear to be reconstructions at a training ground. The commentary notes that the mortar was the most effective weapon used against ground troops in the Second World War. The Green Archer radar system is shown, along with a brief history of its development. It was decided that a more lightweight version was required and Cymbeline was built, weighing only 270kgs. The Cymbeline is transported by helicopter. Plan diagram of the two-point method of detection used by the Green Archer, and now the Cymbeline. Soldiers in the field plot map co-ordinates from the Range-Azimuth Display. Cymbeline transported by being mounted to an FV 432 armoured personal carrier. Other functions of the Cymbeline for poor visibility conditions include: adjustment of gunfire, helicopter control, and quick surveying radar flair. The radar shown in the film is a prototype, and testing, such as the trundling trials (shown) is currently being carried out.
