Description:I.SS Dominion Monarch and SS Stirling Castle arrive at the Mersey Docks in Liverpool to a welcome provided by a military band from the South Staffordshire Regiment and a US Army reception committee which includes a number of 'snowdrops' (US military police). Hundreds of American troops line the decks of both troopships. GIs about to board a troop train at Liverpool Station receive doughnuts from an American Red Cross girl before the train pulls out of the station. Note that sections of the station roof are missing as a result of bomb damage. Long imposing columns of GIs march in rows of four along the quayside past the Dominion Monarch. A Red Cross girl gives books to troops on board a troop train.
II. US Army personnel, including nurses, line the decks of SS Athlone Castle as she docks. Troops in full kit march along the quayside.
