Film Number:A70 34-3
Other titles:
Summary: Troops from the 3rd Canadian Division are joined by Royal Marine Commandos in their efforts to subdue German defence strongpoints still holding out a day after the initial D-Day landings on 'Juno' Beach.
Description: A section from the North Shore (New Brunswick) Regiment's carrier platoon moves along a rubble-strewn, half-wrecked street in the coastal village of St Aubin-sur-Mer. Canadian troops take cover on both sides of the street as firing breaks out. Wehrmacht soldiers from the 716th Infantry Division's 736 Grenadier Regiment are lined up against a wall by men of the North Shore Regiment. The next sequences of film show No 48 (Royal Marine) Commando in action against a German strongpoint in Langrune-sur-Mer the following day, June 7th. An M10 Wolverine from the 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery turns its 3-inch gun onto an anti-tank barrier twenty yards away. A commando fires on a burning house suspected of harbouring snipers. The strongpoint yields thirty-five German prisoners from the 736 Grenadier Regiment who are lined up on the road for despatch to a beach POW compound. At the roadside watching the M10 in action is No 48's commanding officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Moulton, with other troops. With the M10 are two Royal Marines Armoured Support Group Centaur tanks: the one in the background ran onto mines the previous day.
