Summary: Belgian film of general activity by their own forces in Flanders, Western Front, 1916-1917.
Description: Soldiers start digging a trench system and wiring up the positions. Finned mortar bombs for a 58mm Crapouillot (?) are carried forward into a front-line trench and used to bombard the German positions. A patrol in a flooded area. A trench system near damaged buildings. A group of soldiers leaves wattle dugouts in response to an alert. A sniper takes aim and falls back wounded (acted ?). His friend calls for a stretcher and he is carried back through the trench system to safety. A round observation balloon is inflated. A 75mm field gun fires at a high angle. Two observers bail out from an observation balloon as it bursts into flames from an air attack. Aircraft dogfight in the sky. A soldier with a trench periscope gives the alert and a bugler blows a gas warning. The men put on 1916 pattern gas hoods. Infantry practise an open order charge on a training ground beside their tents. A 75mm bombards the front line. A heavy gun in a fortress cupola joins in.
