Summary:A short film, directed and filmed by Tim Hetherington, documenting the escalating violence and humanitarian crisis in the Darfur region of Africa (2006).
Description:Setting the scene for the conflict in the Darfur region, on the border between Sudan and Chad, using a mixture of still images, video and commentary to convey the situation which is under investigation by non-governmental organisation Human Rights Watch. The rise regional violence is attributed to Sudanese government forces and their surrogates, the Janjaweed, attacking villages around the border areas. The film is presented in context of the investigation as it unfolds, from testimony given to the Human Right Watch by refugees to uncovering evidence of attacks on the ground. The commentary and intertitles highlight that the images shown are the first evidence of the Darfur conflict 'bleeding' into Chad.
