  • Description: Officers and airmen parade in front of Allied Air Forces Central Europe (AAFCE) headquarters as high ranking officers, including General Norstad (Commander in Chief) and French Air Force General Pierre Fay (Chief of Staff) inspect honour guard and troops. General Fay decorates Commandant Henri Malcor Deydier de Pierrefeu with the Croix de Guerre for actions in Indochina, and General Norstad decorates General Dudley D Hale (USAF) of Chattanooga with the cluster to the Legion of Merit for his role as Vice Commander 5th Air Force in Korea. General Norstad and honour guard greet Secretary of Defense Wilson as he arrives at AAFCE headquarters before touring the base. The general and Mr Wilson visit the communications centre. General Ridgeway comes out of SHAPE headquarters with delegation of Portuguese ministers Compte de Tovar (Permanent Portuguese Ministerial Representative to NATO), Lieutenant Colonel Fernando dos Santos Costa (Portuguese Minister of National Defence) and Paolo Da Cunha (Minister of Foreign Affairs). The group pose for photographs with General Gruenther and Admiral Betancourt before leaving in their car.
