Film Number:NAT 1220
Other titles:SHAPE FILM LIBRARY [Allocated Series Title]
Summary:After opening with scenes of the SHAPE cafeteria and the SHAPE bus in action ferrying workers between the headquarters at Marly-le-Roi to Paris, the bulk of the film concentrates on the building of the SHAPE village itself, beginning with the discussion of the plans, surveyors at work and site clearance, through to various phases of construction work (including a visit by General Eisenhower and other Allied officers to view the progress). Further foundations are laid and cranes are seen in action. The first four families move into the SHAPE village; children wave from balcony. The village is officially opened by General Eisenhower, who cuts the ribbon, receives flowers from a little girl, meets residents and inspects further buildings under construction. Final shots show tape being cut by Eisenhower.
