Summary:NATO representatives (including Admiral Carney, Admiral Lemonnier and Mr Draper) leave the USS Mount Olympus by launch. They make their landing at Lebedos Bay, Turkey and go ashore ready to observe the beach assault exercise. Observers cluster on the beach as the exercise begins. Aircraft fly past and "strafe" the area as landing craft approach the beach and marines disembark. Marines, under the command of US Brigadier General R E Hogaboom, set up signal equipment and move forward on the beach. Marines gather and squat, looking at papers; a sign marked "SHORE PARTY" is in the ground. Landing craft disgorge troops, jeeps and tanks.
