  • Summary: In a turnover ceremony at the Tannenberg Kaserne, headquarters of 2nd Grenadier Battalion, the first three German Divisions to join SHAPE are turned over to General Norstad. VIPs, including Admiral Sala, General Speidel, General Norstad, General Valluy and Air Chief Marshal Sir George Mills and Vice Admiral attend the ceremony, inspecting troops and meeting German officers beforehand. During the ceremony, General Norstad reviews the troops and he and fellow officers salute. Band plays; General Heusinger stands at microphone. Soldiers march past. Change of Command ceremony, Turkey. Troops march through Turkish streets to the Kemal Atatürk statue. Major General R A Grussendorf (retiring commander of 6th ATAF) and Major General Brooke Allen (his replacement) review troops, before placing wreath on the statue. Ceremony in square: Major General Grussendorf, at speakers' stand, delivers speech and removes his badge, pinning it on Major General Allen's uniform. They salute and shake hands. General Gruenther visits SHAPE headquarters. Among those present are General Norstad, General Schuyler, Admiral Sala, Field Marshal Montgomery and Brigadier Cross. Wilber Brucker and Hugh Milton visit SHAPE headquarters and are greeted by General Norstad and General Schuyler.
