Summary: A review, ceremonial parade and athletics gathering by the Cadet Brigade of the Royal Air Force in the town of Saint Leonards-on-Sea (near Hastings) on Whit Monday, 20th May 1918.
Description: The cadets are encamped in the Filsham valley near the town. They march onto a grassy 'parade ground'in the valley in PT gear and their RAF caps, and form the letters RAF in marching formation. "These letters should inspire all young men of spirit to come forward and offer themselves for the Adventure of the Air." Brigadier-General A C Critchley, commanding the Cadet Brigade, trots on horseback past the civilian spectators. Major-General F C Heath-Caldwell, commanding the South Eastern Area RAF, inspects the parade while on horseback (always in long shot). The scene changes to the sea front in Sea Road, opposite West Marina Gardens, at Saint Leonards-on-Sea. Various RAF officers stand at a saluting base while the cadets of the brigade march past them. The cadets are in full uniform with their white-banded caps. Next a cadet sports held in Priory Meadow cricket field, in Hastings' town centre. The cadets compete in a 100 yards sprint, followed by a mile race round the track. A joke 'Charlie Chaplin' races past. The 120 yards hurdles is followed by the sack race. An aircraft stunt flies high overhead. The cadets give a PT display followed by a massed display of boxing.
