III. Newsreel item on the funeral of Baron Manfred von Richthofen ('the Red Baron') at Bertangles, Western Front, 22nd April 1918.
Description: The King, in naval uniform, and the Queen visit the barracks to pay tribute to the sailors and marines involved. The Queen goes inside a hospital ward to talk with one of the patients. The royal party prepares to leave by train.
Lord Lurgan, John Hodge MP and Hall Caine arrive at the hospital for Robey's "Coliseum Charity Concert". Robey shows them around the hospital, where they watch a patient receiving heat lamp treatment. They talk with a group of patients on the hospital lawns.
Two groundcrew of the RAF display the wreckage of von Richthofen's Fokker triplane and its two Spandau machine guns. The burial party from six RAF squadrons places the coffin on a lorry. At the burial place itself the coffin is lowered into the ground and the burial party, of 3 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, fires volleys over the grave.
