- Description: Balfour talks with the local vicar, then the two go with a procession to the church graveyard. The monument has doors in the form of a triptych which Balfour opens. The Queen arrives with Princess Mary by car at the barracks. The VAD ladies are drawn up with their ambulances on the courtyard with the building visible in the fog behind them. The Queen with the Princess inspects the parade. The match, which takes place in a local park, is between the women munitions workers of Kynocks and of Vickers-Maxim. The teams toss up to start and the Mayor of Southend kicks off. As the game progresses other newsreel cameramen can be seen at work on the far side of the pitch. The troops water the camels at a drinking trough. One of the British soldiers pets his own camel, playing with it and putting his arm in its mouth as a gesture of trust and affection. The men, gunners of 51st (Highland) Division, enter by ladder the temporary shelter they have constructed from the water tower.
