Other titles:ECA NEWSREEL STORIES [Allocated Series Title]
Summary:A selection of newsreels focusing on post-war reconstruction in Germany. Commentary and titles are in either English or German.
Description:The first news story, entitled "Allies help clear Rhine", shows how United States Army engineers assisted in the removal of the many damaged bridges located along the Rhine River in Germany. Many of these bridges had been obstructing the use of the waterway since the retreating Wehrmacht had sabotaged them, during their retreat from the Allies in the latter stages of the Second World War.
The second news story is entitled "War Crimes Trial" but the content is brief and incomplete.
The first of the German language news stories focuses on civilian leisure activities along picturesque stretches of the Rhine River. A small vessel runs a passenger service from "Konigswinter" and scenes emphasise a traditional rural German lifestyle.
The last news story is entitled "Streiflichter aus Deutschland". The content covers the transportation of coal along (presumably) the River Rhine, before reverting back to the rigour of bridge reconstruction work.
