UN Secretary General Trygve Halvdan Lie touches down in a commercial aircraft and disembarks, as the press scramble for photographs along the tarmac of an airport runway. He proceeds to speak with the gathered media, remarking on recent discussions held in Europe.
In Korea, a sign has been erected by American troops marking the 1st Cavalry Divisions achievement in reaching the 38th Parallel, as an American soldier draws a line in the dirt to mark an approximate border line. More American troops form around a tank as artillery fire explodes in the far distance. A mixture of South Korean and American military personnel gather beside a sign on the roadside; "YOU ARE CROSSING THE 38TH PARALLEL COURTESY OF 3RD ROK DIV".
Prisoners of war sit dishevelled on the ground. Contrasted by a village welcoming South Korean troops, who are treated as liberators. One of the South Korean personnel defaces a picture of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin with his rifle. Some of the local residence are dressed in white clothing and wave flags; others climb onto a tank or dance in celebration.
