Summary:Men of the Jewish Brigade, 604 Battery 200 Field Regiment, Royal Artillery mark Passover at Pioletto near Brisighella in Lombardy.
Description:In a grassy clearing, men sit in a circle around an altar table for a service lead by the Brigade Rabbi Captain Bernard Casper. In civilian life, Captain Casper was the Rabbi at High Broughton, Manchester. The altar displays, what is now the flag of Israel with the Star of David, which is pinned at the top by two artillery shells and two brodie helmets with a spent shell casing in either corner on the ground. Shot over a man’s shoulder shows he’s reading a Hebrew text, possibly the order of service, with an illustration. Captain Casper leads the men in song. Warm food is distributed by NCOs (Non-Commissioned Officers) to men holding out their mess tins. Men take Matzah bread from boxes. Ends with men seen eating sat in a circle.
