Summary:
Description: Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery, 21st Army Group Commander, is seen with two of his formation commanders, Lieutenant-General Sir John Crocker (GOC 1st Corps) and Major-General E H Barker (GOC 49th Division) as they arrive at a Belgian sanatorium in St Antonius, ten miles north- east of Antwerp, to present awards for gallantry earned since mid-June 1944 to members of the 49th (West Riding) Division. After the ceremony (held indoors and thus not filmed), Montgomery and the divisional commander sit for photographs with the men he has just decorated; the first group portrait shows, commissioned officers, non- commissioned officers and private soldiers together, the second and third with officers only and other ranks only respectively. Montgomery bids farewell to Belgian nurses from the sanatorium before leaving St Antonius in his Humber staff car, "Old Faithful"; with him is his ADC, Major Sanderson.
