- Summary: British troops in the Piave River area of the Italian Front, December 1917.
- Description: 2nd Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers of 5th Division, including four bagpipers, detraining and resting at Legnano, 20 December 1917. 1st Battalion, the Bedfordshire Regiment (?) of 5th Division marching through Legnano in column of fours. Men of 11th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, 23rd Division, taking an outdoor wash in wooded country behind the River Piave. Men of 41st Division (?) in a village behind the River Piave buying trinkets from outdoor stalls and helping the local women draw water from a large domed well in the street. A line-laying wagon of the Royal Engineers moves along a street with Italian Carabinieri watching. A group of soldiers from the Machine Gun Corps and RAMC pluck geese for Christmas, with an Italian girl, wearing an RAMC cap, helping. A British 18-pounder battery passes one way along a tree-lined road and Italian troops bring a bullock cart of fodder the other way. Brigadier-General Peppino Garibaldi addresses British troops. Six French, British and Italian company officers talk together in a square "within a mile of the enemy". British and French troops move along shallow trenches (probably training). The wreckage of three aeroplanes guarded by British and Italian troops after they were shot down in an air raid, probably all Albatros CIII with Austrian markings. The wreckage of two cottages after another Albatros had crashed on top of them. The aerodrome of 45 Fighter Squadron RFC, probably at Padova or San Pelagio. The pilots pose beside their Sopwith Camels, after which two of the Camels take off. British soldiers wearing their shrapnel helmets and gasmask satchels dig reserve trenches in a wooded area behind the Piave.
