- Summary: Various Indonesian operations including resupply of Tanjong Po lighthouse in Sarawak, anti-infiltration patrol by HMS Kent along the Malay coast, 42 Commando on patrol around Tawau in Sabah (North Borneo).
- Description: I. HMS Kent's Wessex helicopter carries Royal Marines from 40 Commando on a patrol against infiltrators. CU-MS as Wessex lifts off from Kent's flightdeck and climbs away towards scattered islands off the Malay coast. Cut to view through the door of helicopter in flight over the sea, and landing amidst clouds of dust on a pad cleared among palm trees. A Shackleton flying in support of the operation sweeps overhead. The marine patrol files across a bridge and makes off along a path between the trees. Cut to helicopter in flight over the coastal palms and mangrove swamp - aircrew keep watch with binoculars. Views from the helicopter as it lands on a pad onshore and then on the flightdeck of HMS Kent. LS as Shackleton MR Mk 2 flies past, radome lowered. Sequence showing a replenishment at sea from HMS Reliant (A.84) - RAS team on the supply ship preparing for jackstay transfer, and stores coming across. The BBC cameraman Fred Hamilton also transfers - he is seen suspended between the two ships, clutching his camera, a strong wind whipping at his trousers. II. HMS Kent off Labuan takes precautions against a suspected underwater saboteur (which turned out to be a turtle). Crewmen scatter scare charges from Kent's launch as it circles the ship. III. Resupply of Tanjong Po lighthouse, run by men of Naval Party Kilo. At Kuching a RAF Whirlwind is loaded with supplies from a RN Land Rover. Aerial view as the aircraft flies over the Sarawak jungle to the pagoda-like lighthouse built on a jungle-covered headland. The helicopter descends onto Tanjong Po's tiny pad and the naval party unload stores. Sailors read their mail. Scene inside the wireless office - a man is on the radio telephone. RAF helicopter pilot talks with the lighthouse crew. The sailors wave as the departing aircraft climbs away. IV. Naval Party Kilo boats at Samatan. LA of two of the boats alongside the jetty - they are converted Naval Stores Tenders, one decorated with a picture of Andy Capp on the bows - the cameracraft moves onto the port bow of 'Andy Capp' for a better view of the wheelhouse and the cargo deck covered with an awning. 'Andy Capp' sets out on a patrol. One of the force's patrol boats approaches the jetty and secures - 'Andy Capp' then approaches to come alongside the first boat. Ratings pass the camera as they climb up the steps from their berth - a motley crew. The men relax over drinks on veranda of bungalow at Samatan. Cameracraft leaves the jetty. V. Royal Marines patrol the river and mangrove swamps around Tawau in Sabah near the Indonesian border. MS of men of the Royal Marines of 42 Commando fell in for a pre-patrol briefing at a forward base at Seradong Laut - they stand at ease, many of them stripped to the waist. A group primes grenades for the patrol. The patrol sets off across a bridge - they carry FALs and a GPMG, the Dayak scout a single-barrelled shotgun. Cut to CU of Marines of the Tawau Assault Group on a river patrol - the men in the assault boat look away from camera to the jungle-covered banks. A second assault boat leads the cameracraft up the narrowing river to a point where the two craft land their men. Empty but for the helmsman and the cameraman, the assault boat returns at speed to base. HA.MS onto Army supply boats secured alongside at Tawau. A mobile crane loads supplies into one of the boats, which sets off for Seradong Laut. LS from the departing boat to the jetty - eggs cartons are stacked on the cabin roof. General shots of the river and lush vegetation on the river banks. The supply craft approaches the landing stage at Seradong Laut. MS of one of the Marine's defensive positions - a sandbagged machine gun post. Final LS to Seradong from the river, showing the dense surrounding jungle.
