Film Number:IWM 1062-22b
Other titles:
Summary: Disjointed film of British forces on the Salonika Front, probably mid-1916.
Description: The film's scenes are out of sequence and its title appears nearly half-way through. As it stands, it opens with soldiers filling sandbags and digging a trench line. Scottish troops on the march with shovels. Troops drinking tea in a slit trench. British soldiers escorting a Greek civilian donkey convoy. Three staff officers in a slit trench. British soldiers trying to put out a smouldering fire in a house in the town of Salonika. (The title appears here.) A digging party marches out of camp. Others carry and shovel sand for construction. The completed trench is revetted, ("rivetting a trench" according to the caption) with branches.
