Summary: Additional coverage of the re-opening of the main railway station at Caen following the completion of the replacement railway bridge over the Orne.
Description: The 650 hp US diesel-electric locomotive crosses 926th Bridging Company RE's unit construction bridge and makes the short journey from there to the Gare de l'État in the late afternoon of August 10th 1944. The next morning sees the departure of the first train to leave Caen for Bayeux since D-Day. Relics of the German occupation include a sign denoting the presence of a German railway station military guard house on Platform A and a warning notice signed by the district military commander, a certain Hauptmann (Captain) Reisener, on March 22nd 1942 which forbids the photographing of German equipment and personnel. A British sign even more categorical in tone forbids access to all Allied troops except for railway engineers.
