Summary: I. "How Nazis left Rome." Clandestine film (high-level shots) of the departure of small groups of German soldiers, including stretcher bearers with a casualty, and armour along almost deserted streets. Large crowds then welcome the Fifth Army and civilians help American soldiers to locate snipers (film of shooting and of man on rooftop apparently stumbling). Alexander is reported to be pushing on towards Florence. Soldiers of the Brazilian First Contingent under General Mascarenhas de Moraes stand smiling on the dockside after their arrival.
II. "Deep shelters make alerts all clear." View of the interior of one of the five new underground shelters which are safe, comfortable and excellently serviced (canteen, doctor). "No one is in the least downhearted."
III. "The other man's job. Bren carriers full out for victory." Bren carrier production scenes. Completed vehicles drive out of factory. Also seen is the larger Loyd Tractor which carries 8 men and can tow a 6-pounder gun or carry equipment across difficult terrain (scenes in Normandy and also demonstration exercises).
