Title:THE RUINS OF AUNAY-SUR-ODON [Allocated Title]
Film Number:A70 124-7
Description: On either side of a cleared passage through the devastated village of Aunay-sur-Odon stand ruined and gutted houses and blasted tree trunks dominated by the gaunt spindly Church spire at its centre. 2nd Army pioneers work on clearing debris off the roads running through Aunay and fill in a large bomb-crater with masonry from a ruined house. The facade of the Church nave and the spire survey the ruins that surround them.
Notes: Note: See A70 124-8 for similar footage. Refer also to A70 113-18, 20 and 21 for materials shot in Aunay-sur-Odon shortly after its capture by the 7th Armoured and 59th (Staffordshire) Divisions.
Remarks: Good footage - the ruins of Aunay-sur-Odon seem to have exerted a disproportionate degree of fascination for AFPU cameramen although by 1944 standards the ruination of this location is remarkably complete. Best seen with the items listed above.
