- Title: TWO BRITISH ARMY CORPS TAKE PART IN OPERATION 'GOODWOOD' [Allocated Title]
- Film Number: A70 85-6
- Other titles:
- Summary: Armoured infantry units assigned to 1st Corps assemble in the Orne bridgehead for Operation "Goodwood" as more reinforcements cross the Orne to join those formations taking part in 8th Corps' massive assault on the German lines south-east of Caen.
- Description: Infantrymen belonging to the 2nd Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry, Sherman and Fireflies from the Staffordshire Yeomanry and Sherman flail tanks belonging to the 1st Lothian and Border Horse assemble between Herouvillette and Escoville; conspicuously marked with red crosses are M5 half-tracks carrying 3rd British Division RAMC detachments. Daimler armoured cars, White and Daimler scout cars and M5 half-tracks from the Inns of Court Regiment file past the tightly-packed tank and infantry concentration; an RAF Typhoon fighter-bomber flies low over the column. The combined armour and infantry force wait for 185th Brigade's push towards fortified villages along the Caen-Troarn railway to commence. At "Euston" and "York II" bridges over the Orne at Bénouville (the former a permanent structure, the latter a Class 40 Bailey pontoon bridge), elements from the Guards Armoured and 3rd British Divisions pour into the congested bridgehead.
