Reel 2: Further on ejection seat safety and removal. Servicing seat components including drogue and seat guns.
Reel 3: Continuing servicing of seat components. Reassembly of component parts and refitting seat into aircraft.
Reel 4: “Ejection Seat Servicing Pt 2 - First Line Servicing of the Mark 3 Seat” - two airmen reprimanded by Flt Sgt for not reading latest orders regarding ejection seat servicing accidents. Servicing Mk3 seats in Vulcan (and Javelin or Hunter) again removed from aircraft to ease explanation/demonstration.
Reel 5: Checking and removing components of Mk 3 seat.
Reel 6: “Ejection Seat Servicing Pt 3 – Second Line Servicing of the Mark 3 Seat” - seats made safe before aircraft towed into hangar for servicing. (“XH500” on seat - Avro Vulcan B1A). Canopy jettison gun servicing. XH482 being pushed into hangar. Seat removal from Vulcan and for comparison seat removal from Valiant (seat marked “WZ405” – Valiant BK1). Servicing seat components in Ejection Seat Bay.
Reel 7: Continuation of seat servicing including seat and drogue and canopy jettison guns. Reassembling seat components.
Reel 8: Reassembly of seat continued. Returning seat to aircraft. Checks made prior to flight. Crew board for flight (617 Sqdn badge on fuselage).
Reel 9: “Ejection Seat Servicing Pt 4 – Servicing of the Mark 4 Seat” - Squadron Leader John Fifield, ejecting at ground level from the Mk. 7 Meteor, taking off at Chalgrove on 3rd September 1955. Airman shown the parts of a Mk 4 seat. Hunter T7 XL583 used to demonstrate safety precautions for seat maintenance/removal. Various functions of seat tested.
Reel 10: Other seat mechanisms removed and checked (e.g. barostatic timed release unit) and serviced. Servicing the ejection gun.
Reel 11: - Checking other parts of ejection seat structure. Reassembling the seat.
Reel 12: - Having a tea break the Cpl informs the airman about the Mk4BS in the Lightning (XL628 shown) and additional steps on removal. Runs through steps to replace seat in aircraft (checking serial numbers etc) XL583 written on seat. SNCO checks fitting of seat in aircraft. Rearming seat and canopy firing unit.
