Summary: One of a series of training films to aid the recognition of airborne aircraft when viewed from the ground. A Squadron of Saab J29 aircraft visits RAF Waterbeach in Cambridgeshire to participate in an exercise, which provides an opportunity to photograph and examine the Saab J29 in detail.
Description: The film opens with a squadron of RAF meteors escorting a squadron of Saab J29 of the Swedish Norrkoping Wing to RAF Waterbeach for a goodwill visit, and to participate in joint operations with the RAF and USAF. At Waterbeach they are welcomed by the Swedish Ambassador and the Chief of RAF Fighter Command who hope the week’s visit will provide informal opportunities for both military/technical and social exchanges. The J29 is a swept wing aircraft second only in squadron service to the Russian MIG 15 and American Sabre. With the aid of photographs and silhouettes in plan and side views, the commentator explains in great detail the salient points to observe when trying to identify an aircraft, be it friend or foe.
The film ends with a high speed formation display by the pilots in their J29’s, while the ground crew prepare to depart in a Junkers 86 and a Dakota concluding a most profitable week for all.
