Description: Reel 1: Silent film using explanation cards for each stage of process of dismantling a radial engine. "The Propellor Boss" :The Hucks starter dog and plate are first removed. The locking device of the propellor boss is automatically released when the spanner is placed in position. "Gas Starter Pipes": It is first necessary to remove all clips. The pipes are then removed singly by unscrewing unions at gas starter and at non-return valve in cylinder. Commence at the front and work to the rear. Film continues with removal of engine partts such as high tension leads, spark plugs, magnetos and various parts. To prevent loss of shims nuts must be replaced immediately. Removal of induction pipes. Engine rotated to remove remaining pipes etc. Eyebolt placed into slinging position. Breathers removed. Cylinders prepared for removal. Crankshaft is turned to TDC before cylinder removal. As each cylinder removed the corresponding piston is removed. Piston pins etc are kept together with piston. Oil pump removal and nuts replaced on studs.
Reel 2: Front cover removal and Thrust Carrier extraction. Timing gear sleeve and gears removal. Annulus removal. Magneto drive shaft removal. Rear cover removal. Fan and induction casing removal. Lifting out crankshaft and connecting rods. Remove tappet guides. Engine parts laid out, front components on left hand rack and rear on right.
Reel 3: "Dismantling of assemblies of units of Jaguar engine": Dismantling cylinders. Rocker arms removed and dismantled. Valve springs and valves removed. Components of one cylinder laid out on table. Disassemble tappet guide pieces. Remove thrust assembly from front cover. Remove various elements of front cover. Dismantle oil pump. Pump parts laid out. Gas starter dismantling. Removing timing planets from bracket. Dismantling magneto and tachometer drive. Auxiliary rods removed from master ring.
