Description: Reel 1: Javelin taking off. Armourers pulling Fireflash missiles on trailer into building. Missile designed for day time attacks on bomber aircraft from 15-35000' - it is a beam rider weapon. Brief description of missile operation. “The Firestreak Missile” - operational up to 55000 feet, Infra Red passive homing missile. Brief description of Firestreak missile component parts and how homing system works. “Testing” - various missile units removed and taken to testing bay to undergo testing. Warhead unit assembled and attached to missile. Other parts assembled.
Reel 2: Motor and warhead being installed. Fins and wings being attached to missile body. Front and rear parts of missile joined together. Various fairings attached and electrical leads connected. Launching shoe described and shown being attached. Assembled missile taken to test bay for overall testing.
Reel 3: Testing simulates events leading up to and including firing of the missile. On completion of tests missile transferred to fuzed missile store to await fitting to aircraft. “Aircraft Installation” - Javelin aircraft systems relating to missile installation described briefly including fire control panel. Aircraft pylon systems described (e.g. electrical and hot/cold air connections). “Fitting To Aircraft” - transporter cradle shown and parts described. Process of preparing missile for loading onto aircraft – winching onto aircraft.
