Summary: Pre-war production emphasising the Navy's constant readiness, and centred on the Mediterranean Fleet
Description: Scenes of daily maintenance, screw cutting, rope braiding, etc to ensure that the ships are always ready to sail. HMS Nelson, the Fleet Flagship, leads the fleet out for a full-calibre shoot, with good gunnery sequences. A mock Swordfish attack. A destroyer flotilla, "the cavalry of the fleet", practise depth charging and making smoke. The film ends with scenes of relaxation, boxing, sailing in the whaler, football, tug-o-war and bayonet fencing, and with the tot of rum at the end of the day. The satisfaction of a naval career is gently emphasised.
