Film Number:ADM 4775
Other titles:POST-WAR NAVAL OPERATIONS - MISCELLANEOUS [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: A Royal Navy Lynx demonstrates take offs, close manoeuvring and landings on the flightdeck of HMS Sheffield. Whole sequence shot from a companion helicopter.
Description: Aerial shot of HMS Sheffield steaming at sea. A RN Lynx flies past the ship, then hovers just aft of the flightdeck before landing on. Without cutting its engines the helicopter then lifts off again and moves away. This touch and go procedure is repeated, before the Lynx again alights. Final LS from off to starboard shows the Lynx on the flightdeck, engines still running. Throughout the film Sheffield is operating her Type 1006 navigational radar but the Type 965 air search (AKE-2) antenna is not scanning.
