Title:BEACH CASUALTIES : mobile one man stretchers for handling casualties in shallow water and across beaches [Main Title]
Film Number:ADM 975
Other titles:INVASION EQUIPMENT TRIALS [Allocated Series Title]
Summary:
Description: I. Three mobile stretchers are tested - the first model equipped with two tracked units from searchlight equipment, the second with two large wheels taken from a W/T handcart, and the third, a flat bed with four tracked elements. The stretchers recover 'casualties' from the beach, and then from shallow water. In this second trial the four-track stretcher becomes stuck in the wet sand, and the casualty, giving up all pretence, reclines on one arm, gesturing impatiently to his exhausted bearer. The two-wheeled stretcher is seen operating "at speed", recovery time being shortened by the casualties crawling out of the water and climbing on. A group of military spectators stands by, and a Chevrolet BK 1-1/2-ton 4x2 station wagon waits further up the beach, the driver sitting on the running board.
II. Transfer of casualties from lighter to ship using a banked stretcher frame. The frame, two tiers of three stretchers, is lifted from a DUKW alongside the cameraship. The process is then repeated with a LCP(R), LCM(3) and LCV.
