Summary: A party of NATO and Baghdad Pact officers visit the Portsmouth naval base, and see one of the Navy's newest ships, HMS Hermes, and one of the oldest, HMS Victory.
Description: The delegation visits a Ton Class minesweeper, then crosses the harbour to HMS Dolphin, where they inspect the harbour training submarine HMS Tally Ho (S.87). The visitors pose together for group photographs. They visit HMS Hermes (R.12), where they inspect mirror landing gear and catapult, take a ride on the deck edge lift, etc. Hermes was on trials at this time and her aircraft do not seem to have been embarked - only one Scimitar is in evidence, the second prototype Type 544, WT 859.
