Other titles:THE ROYAL NAVY IN NORTHERN AND ATLANTIC WATERS [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: A Russian convoy - possibly RA.59. Cameraship is a Z Class destroyer.
Description: LSs over the convoy at sea. Cameraship closes on port quarter of a merchantman, which flashes a signal - a party waits on the focsle, presumably for the passing of a line. Cut to MS of flagship HMS Diadem with a destroyer alongside in anchorage. HA aft on the cameraship shows that she carries a HF.DF lattice. The escort carrier HMS Activity leads the cameraship out past a snow-bound coastline. MS as HMS Zenith (R.95) passes - coast in background. A rough sea - cameraship fires a depth charge - HA aft from the starboard side of the bridge shows how the ship is rolling, shipping green sea along the waist. Cut to sequence showing the cameraship alongside a tanker - the two ships appear to be stationary in a heavy snow fall - snow covers the decks, and bridge crew wear duffels and other cold-weather gear. At sea - views aft show the decks covered in snow (the cameraship carries twin 20mm Oerlikon Mk V on either side just aft of the funnel). On the focsle stands a small party ready to clear decks - they duck their heads as A gun trains round to starboard - one of the group holds a snowball, while another man is busy patting one into shape - the men start work shovelling snow off the deck. LSs of merchantmen steaming off snow-bound coast - the cameraship passes a US-built liberty ship. Final shot is CU of tanker seen previously, shot from cameraship secured alongside.
