- Title: OPERATING SINGLE SCREW LANDING BOATS : the LCP(R) and the LCV [Main Title]
- Film Number: ADM 226
- Other titles: AMPHIBIOUS WARFARE [Series Title]
- Summary: A step by step account of the management of a LCP(R).
- Description: Reel One. After a general word about the importance of wearing a life-jacket at sea, the film starts by detailing all the (many) operating checks which should be made before getting underway in a LCP(R). "These checks are important. Don't neglect them. They may save hours of delay, or lives later on." After this exhaustive examination the film passes on to the procedure for starting the boat's engine and warming it up. Reel Two. Engine running characteristics and pre-run checks. Procedure for casting off. The Coxswain's Responsibility. A few generalities. Steering. The general principles, followed by well illustrated explanations of some basic manoeuvres. Reel Three. Procedure for fitting and use of the emergency tiller if the steering fails - it is "dangerous negligence" to go to sea without the tiller. Anchoring. Characteristics of the Danforth anchor and demonstration of its operation. Ramp Handling. Procedure for lowering and raising of the ramp. The LCV - which has a more substantial ramp than the LCP(R) - appears for the first time in this section. Reel Four. Engine Checks When Under Way. Details of the correct engine levels observed on the instruments. Heat exchanger filters. Bilge pumps. Rule for Passing. A general caution against using more than half speed for ordinary manoeuvring. Mooring. Procedure for securing alongside and checks before leaving the craft. A valedictory comment: "Your boat must be ship-shape and ready for action at all times."
