Summary: An edition of the British official newsreel "World Pictorial News", produced by the Ministry of Information, Middle East.
Description: I. 'EAST INDIES BURN JAPANESE MONEY.' Market on Celebes [Sulawesi]. Dutch East Indies officials sit at a table in a market on Celebes (Sulawesi) examining forged Japanese money handed in by locals. The officials exchange the forged currency for Dutch guilders. False notes are burned on bonfire as local people look on. The commentary states that the ashes are "symbolic of Japan's paper empire."
II. 'U.N.O. THE PERSIAN DISPUTE.' Russian representative Andrei A Gromyko is shown in conversation with British representative Alexander G M Cadogan at a meeting of the United Nations Organisation (UNO) Security Council in Hunter College, New York. Gromyko proposes that the hearing relating to Persian affairs should be postponed (in Russian). United States (US) Secretary of State James F Byrnes objects to Gromyko's proposal to delay. Cadogan talks. Egypt's Hassan Pasha stresses need for "big powers" to "respect treaty obligations." Following a vote the motion goes against the Russian proposal. The Russian delegation walks out of the conference chamber. Camera pans over faces of other delegates, including Australian representative, W R Hodgson. Hussein Ala, Iranian representative, addresses the Council (mute).
III. 'KOALA BEARS.' The relocation of koala bears from one area of Australia to another. Government inspectors arrive with rope nooses and nets to capture koala bears from the surrounding trees. The bears are loaded into crates and transported to an area lacking in koalas where they are released to the delight of onlooking local children. Koala bears climb trees in their new home.
