Title:TRIAL OF SHIP-BORNE SPUD PONTOON [Allocated Title]
Film Number:ADM 1010
Other titles:LAUNCHING SPUD PIER FOR SHIPS [Alternative Title]
Summary:
Description: A small spud pontoon is swung outboard by derrick from a ship alongside at Southampton (?). The pier is a framework of girders without decking, braced in a manner reminiscent of a Bailey. Sealed flotation chambers are at either end. Camera pans up one of the four spud legs to show the sheaves at the top for spud lift and down haul ropes. The pontoon is swung inboard and stowed on deck athwartships, and then swung outboard again. Spectators watch the operation from the roof of a nearby warehouse. LCP(L)s and other invasion craft visible in the background.
