- Title: ARGOSY, PROTOTYPE NO 1, MANUFACTURERS' TRIALS (PART V) [Main Title]
- Film Number: ADM 971
- Other titles: AMPHIBIANS [Series Title]
- Summary: Trials of the Argosy tracked amphibian, use of 4-1/2 ton garage jacks as aids to stowage on a LCT, radar equipment wading trials, and smoke ejector trials on a LCV.
- Description: I. Reel one. Introductory MS and CUs of parked Argosy. Open sea and surf trials (sea scale 3, heavy surf to maximum of 6 ft, wind force 6): Argosy enters the sea, and swims out beyond the surf before circling to return to the shore - spectators sit on the vehicle roof. Disembarking from LCT(2) into deep estuary water while laden with 5 tons: Argosy goes down vehicle ramp, propellers turning, enters the water and gets underway - it steers hard a'port to demonstrate manoeuvrability without rudders, removed to avoid fouling the LCT ramp. MS and CU of Argosy underway at speed in estuary. Final LA.MS off the starboard bow of the Argosy, parked on the beach after the surf trials - Scammell Pioneer at frame right. II. Reel two. Miscellaneous material. (1) Trial of 4-1/2 ton garage jacks as aids to stowage on LCT: the crew fail to move into position a 20-ton multi-wheel trailer, but a Dodge 3-ton 4x2 truck is easily... manhandled, albeit not with very much precision. On the beach in the background are parked a Bedford OY, Austin light utility, and AEC Matador. (2) "Radar Equipment Disembarkation and Wading Trials". LCT(4) 597 disembarks Guy Ant signals truck, Bedford OY and trailer, Scammell Pioneer and cabin trailer, and Matador and trailer. Vehicles wade ashore. LCT(3) 340 in the background. (3) "Smoke Ejector Trials with LCV. Ejectors charged with Titanium Tetrachloride." LCV 753 underway with smoke ejector fixed forward on the port side. CUs of smoke cartridges, firing control, etc. Sequence showing LCV laying a screen while running at speed, and manoeuvring to hide within her own smoke.
