Summary: Naval instructional film describing the activities of the Royal Marines in establishing an advanced base in cooperation with the Royal Navy and other services.
Description: The organisation of the Mobile Naval Base Defence Organisation is shown graphically, and the rôle of each section is then illustrated with film, "...so that you may appreciate more keenly the part your own unit plays in the general scheme." A map of an imaginary 'Port X' is then animated to show how the MNBDO establishes and defends an advanced base. The remaining footage - 8 reels - shows this operation taking place. The film of the landings is largely borrowed from COMBINED OPERATIONS (ADM 1161). Great emphasis is given to the emplacement of 4 and 6 inch coastal guns and the setting up of AA batteries, and their ancillary equipment. "The undeveloped harbour of Port X is now a hive of industry bristling with guns and all the modern equipment of war." In the last reel a German air-sea attack is beaten off. This final, imaginary victory justifies the current training programme - "...it's hard training that counts in the long run... it all depends on you."
