- Film Number: ADM 435
- Other titles: FRENCH FORCE X AT ALEXANDRIA [Allocated Title]
- Summary: Units of the French Fleet operate with Royal Naval forces based at Alexandria prior to the French capitulation.
- Description: Aerial XLS from inland to port of Alexandria. LS across anchorage. French sailors from the Lorraine enjoy a ride in a horse-drawn taxi with 'mates' from HMS Orion. The group shops in Jock MacGregor's 'The Pyramids Bazaar', and enjoy a drink at a roadside cafe - one of the British ratings has his shoes cleaned by an Egyptian boot-black. LS across the harbour to HMS Royal Sovereign at her moorings. MS to port afterbody of Lorraine - the battleship's name is clearly picked out on her stern. Rating cleans the tompions of Y turret's guns on the cameraship, HMS Malaya - in the background is the French battleship Lorraine. CUs of Royal Marines and ratings fallen in on quarterdeck of Malaya for divisions. MS as the cruiser HMS Dragon passes right to left. Cut to aerial view of a Westland Lysander I in flight over the French Bretagne at sea - the camera-aircraft then flies close past the battleship's starboard side. Aerial views of Royal Sovereign, Bretagne and Lorraine at sea. 'Good Scenes'. LS pan over the harbour at Alexandria from Malaya to Royal Sovereign and a third battleship lying bows-on to the camera - in the foreground is a L'Adroit Class destroyer (T.82), and one of the Chacal Class of large destroyers, Tigre (X.41). LA.MS from a smallcraft passing off the starboard quarter of French Duquesne Class cruiser. Man cleans tompions on Malaya. British and French sailors on a street in Alexandria. Shot from the back of a shop as men from Lorraine examine the wares on the counter - one man demonstrates a flick-knife to a friend. CU of a French sailor drinking beer - he has turned his cap ribbon inside-out but the name Bretagne is still discernible. Aerial MS as Lysander flies past Lorraine at sea. MS of Lysander I of 208 Squadron RAF in flight over desert - the serial L 4728 is painted on the aircraft's wheel spats. MS from behind gunshield as crew of a twin 4-inch gun go through loading drill, the gun at maximum elevation - presumably on Malaya.
