Summary: Film on the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible (R.05), beginning with her launch by the Queen on 3rd May 1977 and then interspersing scenes of her sea trials under the Red Ensign with shots of the ship under construction at Barrow, from the laying down of the keel to the assembly of pre-fabricated sections, painting of the superstructure, the arrival by road of her two propellers and the construction of her ski jump. Part of the formal ceremony at which she was accepted by the Royal Navy is shown, followed by her commissioning and scenes of firefighting exercises and Sea Harriers operating from her deck. Her role in the Falklands War is described, with images of casualties arriving onboard by helicopter and views from the bridge as the ship ploughs through rough seas. Her return to Portsmouth after the war is shown as the narrator talks about battle honours and the importance of the Royal Navy to the United Kingdom.
