- Summary:
- Description: I. View of pilot and observer from cabin of Lynx in flight - the Seaspray display is clearly visible in front of the observer. Aerial views as the aircraft circles HMS Gloucester (D.96) - the destroyer obligingly makes a turn to port at speed. A second Lynx flies past right to left then banks away. After a flight over empty sea, the helicopter approaches HMS Cardiff (D.108) in low light conditions. After a pause for routine aerial shots of the ship, the aircraft lands on. II. Dawn on Cardiff. Flight crew sit or stand about on the flightdeck talking - they seem rather bleary and their is much rubbing of eyes and scratching - one slaps an insect onto the deck and treads on it, and several others make swatting gestures. The helicopter is on deck, the hangar open. III. Broad daylight. LA to ratings looking out to sea from a position on the port side of upper 03 deck just aft of the Type 1022 radar - camera pulls back to show SCOT radome and Phalanx CIWS - a notice near the Type 1022 warns of radiation hazards or 'radhaz'. RAM (?) seems to have been laid over some sections of the bridge block. Crewman looks out to sea through binoculars - he blinks in the bright light as he takes them from his eyes - zoom in to man in background on Local Aiming Sight, then pull back again to man with binoculars. The group of onlookers has grown - some wave to camera. IV. LA shot from back of the hangar to flight deck - flightcrew stand at the entrance silhouetted in the fierce sunlight - the Lynx is running up. Flight crew go to their take off positions. Cardiff turns to port and the frigate HMS Brazen is then framed in the hangar doorway - the cameraman moves forward, but the frigate is lost as the Cardiff continues her turn. MS of helicopter as flight crew are ordered clear - they hold the tethers aloft for the pilot to see, and on the signal from FDO he takes off and clears to starboard. Crew talk among themselves after the take off - Brazen visible in the background.
