Title:HARRIERS OPERATING FROM HMS HERMES [Allocated Title]
Film Number:ADM 4828
Other titles:FALKLANDS CONFLICT [Allocated Series Title]
Summary: Harrier aircraft deck operations on HMS Hermes.
Description: (Reel 1) In poor weather, Harriers are seen lined up on deck. A mechanic works on a Sidewinder missile under one wing. A pilot checks over his aircraft. The container ship Atlantic Conveyor is seen sailing alongside. (Reel 2) In brighter weather, Harrier deck operations carry on. Several shots show a Harrier with its wingtip wheel in the catwalk off the edge of the flightdeck and efforts to recover it (apparently successful). (Reel 3) Several Harrier take-offs are shown. A shot of the Harrier's wheel in the catwalk from the previous reel is repeated.

Notes: Summary: footage was received with no documentation and little identification. Information is partly based on the recollections of Alan Fowler, the DPR(N) cameraman who probably shot this reel, in 1993. (See note to ADM 4821).
Technical: reel 3 received as a duplicate negative, but apart from the one shot noted, the original material was apparently not passed to the IWM with this intake.
Remarks: the camera work is poor - almost constant aimless panning and zooming means very few well composed shots.
