Summary: An edition of the British official newsreel "War Pictorial News", produced by the Ministry of Information, Middle East.
Description: I. 'CARE OF THE WOUNDED.' Bare chested Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) members perform a series of physical jerks on the front lawn of the rehabilitation hospital Jervis Bay House (New South Wales). A patient with a plaster cast uses an exercise bicycle in the gymnasium at Jervis Bay House. Other patients use a pulley-operated weights machine. At another hospital (location undisclosed) "nerve case" patients indulge in a recreational therapy session which includes basket weaving, furniture restoration and leather working. RAAF patients in plaster casts play tennis and bowls in the extensive gardens of Jervis Bay House.
II. 'NEWS FROM ENGLAND.' Sports meeting at White City. Large crowds watch mile race, which is a close contest between Briton, Corporal Sydney Wooderson, and Swede, Arne Anderson.
III. 'BRITISH FLEET WATCHES JAPAN.' A Squadron of Fleet Air Arm (FAA) Supermarine Seafire (Mk III ?) fighter aircraft run up their engines on the deck of an unidentified Royal Navy carrier (HMS Implacable?) of the British Pacific Fleet. FAA aircrew congregate to chat on the flightdeck. An FAA Grumman Avenger (TBF-1B) has its engines run up and wings locked into flying position. A Seafire Mk III fighter with a centre-line drop tank takes off on a patrol. Extended footage shows Seafires and a Fairey Firefly (Mk I ?) landing back on the carrier flightdeck. Various landing mishaps are shown that include a Seafire losing a portion of its starboard wing and nosing over onto its propeller. Firefly (272N) is dropped over the side of the carrier into the sea following a deck landing accident. Interior views of the aircraft maintenance deck shows mechanics working on the tail assembly and engine of a Fairey Firefly aircraft. The aircraft later has an engine test on the flightdeck of the aircraft carrier.
