Summary: Diversionary bombardment of Cotrone, Calabria, by HMS Penelope, HMS Aurora and six destroyers at 0200 hours, 1 August, 1943.
Description: LS off port bow of LSI (?) in Grand Harbour taken from HMS Aurora. HMS Nelson is at moorings, a Colony Class cruiser anchored astern of her while destroyer HMS Troubridge goes alongside - HMS Ilex bows on in foreground. LS of Penelope as Aurora gets underway - County Class cruiser moored at frame right. HMS Ilex (I.61) and HMS Troubridge (R.00) sortie. HMS Penelope follows in the cameraship's wake as she leaves Malta. Brief sequence as Costin gun is used to pass a light line for transfer of despatch to a P Class destroyer. LS off port bow of Troubridge. Night bombardment, Aurora firing over her port beam - the flash illuminates crew of the bridge. Dawn - LSs of the Sicilian coast and Mount Etna which is smoking slightly. Various MSs of HMS Penelope steaming in company with cameraship - she is at first degree of readiness, with A and B trained on either bow. The force returns to Malta.
