- Summary: HMS Gloucester receives Sea Dart missiles from RFA Fort Grange during a replenishment at sea.
- Description: I. RAF Sea King approaches cameraship Fort Grange to hover over the flightdeck - a team of marines (?) in camouflage gear rope down onto the deck, and the helicopter makes off. MS of FDO as he directs Sea King to land on. Cut to Sea King taking off. II. MS to HMS Gloucester running close alongside for a replenishment - supplies are passing between the ships. LA.MS to a GEC MK 1A pivoted arm, part of the heavy jackstay rig on Fort Grange, as stores are received from Gloucester, and lowered to the deck where a fork lift quickly clears them away. Supplies, already in their delivery trolleys, are sent across to the destroyer. MS of dolly winch as crewmen recover messenger and outhaul (?) - a bag comes across. LA.MS as rig captain on Fort Grange signals that he is tensioning the wire. MS to mainmast of Gloucester surmounted by the Type 992Q aerial - flying is the ship's private flag, which is red and bears the word FIGHTING, the letter G exaggerated with its bar rendered as a Sea Dart missile - hence 'Fighting Gloucester'. On the destroyer's forecastle a load of 4.5-inch shells is received and immediately moved away on a pallet truck. Gloucester's hydraulic jackstay transfer arm is lowered to bring the hook down so that a cargo net can be easily hitched on - the arm then rises again, the signal to heave away is given, and the load starts across to Fort Grange. Another load passes back to Gloucester. MS to bows of destroyer, the distance line running between the ships, then pull back to show Gloucester as she steams alongside in calm sea. III. A Sea Dart missile is transferred to Gloucester - the missile is in a protective container, a large load passed across with steadying lines to both ships. Once inboard on the receiving ship it is lowered very carefully onto the deck. Onboard Fort Grange a crewman coils down line. LA.MS to a man at the guardrail, holding a steadying line - in the background the transfer arm on Gloucester lifts a Sea Dart container off the deck, and it starts its return to Fort Grange. The pivot arm lowers the container inboard, where a transporter lifts it and moves it away from the replenishment point - the driver taking care to manoeuvre round the crouching cameraman. A new container is brought out and lifted by the pivot arm. LA to window of the control cabin of the RAS rig and the AT winch operator within. CU of inhaul winch. MS of the frame of the RAS rig seen from the rear as the arm lifts and begins to swing out. HA.MS aft down ship's side to pivot arm lowered and inboard - the arm then lifts and the inhaul is heaved in as a missile container is brought across from Gloucester - the camera shoots rather low at the end of the sequence and misses the traveller block locking in the catcher head of the pivoted arm, although the impact is clearly seen in the load. The arm is lowered inboard. Cut to arm lifting and the catcher head releasing the traveller to run from the highpoint down to Gloucester - the load is another Sea Dart. MS of destroyer's bows and the distance line. MS to a party watching from the destroyer's bridge wing - a Stingray torpedo passes left to right as it is sent across to Fort Grange, and the camera zooms out to keep in frame. HA to destroyer's forecastle as guide rail lifts a Sea Dart container into vertical position over the missile hoist (the missile launcher arms have been swung to one side) - at the same time one of the RAS team signals 'give me slack' and a party on the starboard side of the forecastle begin heaving in. Zoom in to gap between container and hatch to hoist as missile is struck down.
