- Summary: Some of the ships returned to Scapa Flow after the sinking of the Scharnhorst. German survivors are sent ashore.
- Description: I. Reel One. LS of HMS Duke of York lying in a snow-bound Scapa anchorage - shot from a launch carrying crewmen ashore. At sea - murky LS off the port quarter of HMS Jamaica (?) - she fires to starboard. Onboard Duke of York in Scapa - HMS Scorpion closes to go alongside HMS Savage, which already lies next to the battleship. A party of the ship's officers goes ashore in a picket boat. MS over the snow-covered quarterdeck as a RN photographer takes a picture of the shore. Shots of the two destroyers alongside - crewmen on Scorpion lead a cable through bullring on the stemhead - the bridle to a buoy (?). (Note that Savage carries a unique forward armament - the prototype twin 4.5-inch Mk IV mounting.) A launch takes some of Duke of York's crew ashore. Men clear snow from the quarterdeck. A group read letters from home. II. Sequence onboard an Algerine Class minesweeper (?) at sea in heavy weather. The ship's rolling and pitching is quite marked. The White Ensign streams out to port in the wind. III. Reel Two. Scapa. Blindfolded survivors from the Scharnhorst, dressed in merchant seamen's rescue kit, are led onto a ferry to be taken ashore. Sequence showing Duke of York coming to anchor with the cruiser Jamaica in her train. The Norwegian destroyer Stord (G.26) passes right to left - HMS Rodney in the background. Sequence onboard Duke of York as a casualty, lying covered in blankets on a stretcher, is slung from ship's crane and lowered into the hold of a hospital drifter William Wilson lying alongside. MS of Admiral Fraser and his captains - he talks to Captain Hughes-Hallett of HMS Jamaica. LA of tripod leg of foremast, shot through by fire from Scharnhorst. Some of the battleship's gun crews pose for the cameraman - they cheer and make the usual gestures. IV. Cameraman takes a boat to HMS Jamaica - in the background of one shot is a County Class cruiser, possibly HMS Norfolk. Onboard Jamaica there is a group shot of the cruiser's torpedomen who delivered the coup de grace to Scharnhorst - they smile and give thumbs up.
