Notes: Summary: Taken from the Central Film Library record for this item: "The problems of reconstruction were revealed in the tasks which faced the Allied Armies in Southern Italy, the first part of Europe to be freed. Food was short and land uncultivated. Bridges, railways, roads, engines and trucks had been wrecked. There was little fuel or power for transport and industry; water supplies had been wrecked. Epidemics broke out and hospitals were closed. There were no schools for the children. Free political parties, trade unions and Press had long been supressed."
