- Summary: Mediterranean exercise by NATO warships, primarily British and American. They are shadowed by a Soviet Moskva Class carrier. The force returns to Malta.
- Description: Sequence shot from a RFA as HMS Lynx (F.27) comes alongside for replenishment. A fuel hose is transferred, while further aft the frigate sends across a cargo net of empty oil drums and receives full ones in return, transferred individually. Among the empty drums sent across by Lynx are three film transit boxes marked ROYAL NAVAL FILM CORP. After Lynx has withdrawn her place is taken by the American destroyer USS Putnam (757) - on Putnam's bridge is the badge of Destroyer Squadron 32 with the motto "Anywhere, anytime". LS of the Turkish destroyer Izmir (D.341). LS-MS as the cameraship is overflown by two Russian Ka-25 Hormone helicopters, and XLS of the Moskva Class cruiser operating the helicopters. Another Ka-25 flies past. Returning to Malta, the cameraship passes the US attack carrier USS John F Kennedy (67) lying at anchor. Smaller American warships have entered the Grand Harbour - destroyers Bordelson (881), Harold J Ellison (864), William V Pratt (13), and Forrest Sherman (931). A British commando carrier is also present.
